South Asia Floods

South Asia Floods

More than eight million people in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Pakistan have been displaced or had their lives disrupted by flash flooding.

Over two hundred people have lost their lives.

There is continued danger of landslides and significant risk of water-borne and mosquito-borne disease.  Homes have been submerged and water-sanitation facilties destroyed. Damage to roads is hampering search and rescue efforts.

With the monsoon season only just beginning, it is anticipated that more bad weather could result in further deaths, injuries and displacement.

Vulnerable groups such as women, children, older people, isolated rural communities and the physically disabled are likely to face elevated risks.

World Jewish Relief’s Humanitarian Team are liaising closely with trusted local partners in Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar to monitor the situation.
