Mitzvah Day cards bring joy to older people in Ukraine
By Rebecca Singer
The youngest and oldest members of the community took part in exciting Mitzvah Day activities in support of World Jewish Relief on Sunday 19th November.
Residents of Sunridge Court in Golders Green and children at Chigwell & Hainault Synagogue Nursery made cards to send to people in Ukraine as part of Mitzvah Day.
The residents of Sunridge Court, a Jewish residential care home, made Chanukah cards to send to older Jewish people in Ukraine. They were able to fulfil the mitzvah with the assistance of the delegates of the Dangoor Senior Leadership Programme, run by Lead, who came to the home as part of their leadership development to run Mitzvah Day activities.
The Chanukah cards were hand-delivered to older Jewish people in Kyiv, Kharkiv and Zaporozhia who took part in World Jewish Relief projects designed to combat loneliness and isolation.
Paul Anticoni, chief executive of World Jewish Relief says, “It is amazing that the youngest and oldest members of our community are able to do something that brings such joy to the people we support in Eastern Europe – a true mitzvah!”
A huge Thank You! to all the fellows of the Dangoor Senior Leadership Programme for helping us with this Mitzvah Day activity!
