These children now have a roof over their heads, thanks to you
Fausta’s family (pictured above and below) were struck by the catastropic earthquake measuring 7.1 on the Richter scale that hit Mexico on Erev Rosh Hashanah, killing 369 people and leaving thousands homeless.
Fausta’s grandchildren had sadly lost their mum to cancer earlier this year and were living with their grandparents when the earthquake hit. Fausta recalls the moment it happened: “The kids were sleeping and I just screamed at them to get out of the house, we all ran outside and huddled together waiting for the tremor to pass. The next day we could see the damage, there were cracks everywhere and the house had broken to pieces”.
With nowhere safe to sleep Fausta had to split up the children and send them away to distant friends and relatives. Now, thanks to you, we have provided the family with a tent large enough to sleep all fifteen of them and strong enough to withstand the coming winter. We have also provided camp beds, bedding and an emergency kit with kitchen equipment, a water filter and other essentials.
An overwhelmed Fausta thanked us with tears in her eyes.
Above – the moment the children ran into the tent to claim a bed (and begin a pillow fight). We were so pleased to be able to reunite the family and put a smile back on their faces.

Fausta and the children are just one of the many families the British Jewish community has been able to help. Thank you for your vital support.
